War Forces Seven Iranian Schools Shut in UAE, Kuwait

(MENAFN) Seven Iranian schools operating in the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait have been shuttered in the wake of the recent war between Iran and the United States and Israel, an Iranian government spokesperson disclosed Wednesday.

Ali Farhadi, spokesman for Iran's Education Ministry, said affected students have not been left without academic support, with some continuing their studies online under the supervision of Iranian schools in Oman, while others are being monitored directly by institutions inside Iran itself.

"The goal is to ensure that there is no disruption in the education of Iranian students under any circumstances," he said in remarks carried by an official news agency.

Farhadi also leveled sharp criticism at Abu Dhabi, characterizing the UAE government's expulsion of approximately 2,500 Iranian students as "illegal." He said Tehran has coordinated with Oman to absorb those students and ensure their education continues there through the remainder of the academic year.

Iranian schools across Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE are currently conducting classes entirely through remote learning, with the full academic year now expected to conclude virtually, he added.

The school closures are a direct consequence of the regional conflict triggered on Feb. 28, when the US and Israel launched a coordinated military offensive against Iran, prompting Tehran to retaliate with strikes targeting what it described as American interests across the Gulf region.

A ceasefire brokered through Pakistani mediation was declared on April 8, followed by negotiations in Islamabad on April 11–12 — talks that ultimately collapsed without a breakthrough. US President Donald Trump subsequently confirmed that the truce had been extended at Islamabad's request, pending a formal proposal from Tehran.

Trump signaled Monday, however, that he was unlikely to accept Iran's most recent offer — a plan centered on reopening the Strait of Hormuz while deferring all questions surrounding its nuclear program to future rounds of negotiation.
